How to propagate currants and gooseberries from cuttings

I have always wondered how to replicate red / black currants or gooseberries bushes from cuttings. For years I have tried to follow the advice of various gardening blogs trying to select the right type of wood, and cutting it to the right length. The success rate was rather low.

This year I found out how to do it: I does not matter how you cut them it does not matter if you take an old branch or a young branch. The time of the year is the most important factor. You need to take the cuttings in early spring just before the little buds on the bushes start to open. Cut them as you like. It does not matter. Set them in water or directly into humid earth. You will have a nearly 100% success rate.

If you do it at any other time of the year then it will either be a partial success or a total failure.
